The Bright Side of Me

My parents don’t like how I eat
Cuz there’s food all over my face
And the floor and the cat, but I’m working on that
I’m improving at a gradual pace

And my parents don’t like how I talk
Cuz I tend to say things quite loud
I may yell and shout but, hey, what about
Those things I do you should be proud of

I haven’t jumped off of the roof yet
I haven’t drawn on the walls now in days
My lack of tattoos should come as good news
But it never seems to get any praise

The fires I’ve caused have been small ones
And most of them quickly extinguished
And though you may not care for the mud in my hair
I think it makes me look distinguished

Chorus:
Oh, why can’t you look at the good stuff
There are so many good things I do
If you would look on the bright side of me
I’d look on the bright side of you

Sure, my face is a mess when I’m eating
But my napkin is always quite clean
And why not use my pants to wipe my hands?
They’re going in the washing machine

There are many things that I haven’t broken
Including this part of my arm
That box of eggs, my sister’s legs
And the cat’s come to no major harm (yet)

Chorus

There are two sides to every coin and story
There’s a right side and a left side of the street
The bright side of the moon is the side that we all see
Why not look on the bright side of me?

I’ve never attacked a foreign country
Or caused the spread of a major disease
In fact, if you remember, one time last December
I covered my mouth when I sneezed

I know that I haven’t been perfect
But let’s just agree to agree
That I will look on the bright side of you
And you’ll look on the bright side of me

Chorus:
Oh, let’s all look at the good stuff
There are so many good things we do
If you would look on the bright side of me
I’d look on the bright side of you
